The news relentlessly broadcasts about the sex slave trade in the Middle East perpetrated by ISIS, and by Boko Haram in Africa. Remember the 200 school girls who were kidnapped by this army of the terrorists?
Remember Michelle Obama’s hash tag reminder to the world of the looming atrocities yet to happen to those captive girls? Their fate was assumed, and the world knew many of the young girls were going to be sold off as sex slaves.
Case and point, the sex trade is as old as civilization, and human trafficking is conversely, a very old profession. What we don’t want to acknowledge is that human trafficking is on our doorsteps, which is how the sting operation occurred. Savvy neighbors were aware of girls (young girls),walking their streets and aided the LAPD task force resulting in the arrest of 200 violators. Of the 200 arrested, “177 people were arrested for seeking sex from women and girls, who were being trafficked” according to the article published on CBSLA.com.
Just an FYI, bail for these human traffickers with under age (18) individuals, is $150,000. Jail time, depending on previous convictions, would be minimum of 3 years in state prison, and maximum of 8 years, according the Office of Attorney General, California. Further, the OAG states, “Human trafficking is the world’s fastest growing criminal enterprise and is an estimated $32 billion-a-year global industry and 72% of human trafficking victims identified are American.”
This criminal activity is “modern day slavery,” and girls are being branded with tattoos. This act alone resembles the branding of cattle! Can it get any worse? The article doesn’t say why the girls are tattooed, but it is assumed the identifying marks align with a particular pimp. Some even have dollar signs tattooed on the inside of their arm.
The LAPD is looking for these 3 suspects, and requests the public’s help.
