Dancin’ their way out of court and laughing at the system! Hey California, it’s coming our way. Hmmm, maybe about September when California lawmakers are predicted to vote SB10 into law, better known as the Catch and Release Law, despite many state’s warnings to California. New Mexico and New Jersey are quickly finding out the pitfalls of their benevolence to appease criminals. Other states have passed similar bills, only to the dismay of their lawmakers, who cite unforeseen increases in costs to their state, not to mention crime. Yet California is still marching ahead to release those without money for bail and further, to scrub the entire bail system in favor of an algorithm-risk assessment system. Woe be California. We have no idea what is about to hit our state!
Case in point. The cost of “free” bail is going to be transferred to you, the taxpayer rather than the offender or their family members. Criminals will rest assured that a release is forthcoming, shortly after their arrest. A revolving door will occur, crime will go up, and more than likely, the homeless population will rise where much of the crime already exits. But of course, being homeless is a safe place – no mail boxes to receive those court appearance notices.
Last, let’s look at some of the do-gooders in our state, such as Kamela Harris shown in this YouTube video. In this video, she begins with a very informal “Hi Guys” about a very serious subject. She presents an absolutely ridiculous (asinine would be the better word) and implausible example of a young mother arrested for shoplifting, and she contrasts it with seasoned criminals who have money for bail. Has she riled you up? Her melodic voice sounds as though she knows what she’s talking about. Right. She’s a good B.S.’r. What she fails to talk about is O.R. (own recognizance) already used in the court system. This mother, if most of the criteria were met, would more than likely be released. Points, such as “do you have relatives in this community? Do you have a job? Prior convictions and how long have you lived here?” Those questions give a defendant credibility and potential for release without money or a bail bond.
Well, here’s the clincher to end this blog-FYI message. Senators Harris and Rand Paul have co-authored a bill titled, “ Pre-Trial Integrity and Safety Bill,” and have secured $10 million to incentivize states to act on bail reform. Really. The words integrity and safety are used interchangeably –OMG! OK. Let’s give criminals integrity and a standing in the community alongside your Mother, Father and kids! Forget safety. Catch and Release is the watchword nowadays. Commit a crime, and be set free! No jail time, no penalty, no problem!
